When St. Lucia Carnival revelers, especially women, make the choice to ascend the Bum Bum Wall, putting themselves in full view of the crowd below, they are making a statement. This is a declaration of personal freedom and liberation. For that moment at least, they are shedding the masks and ignoring the self-critiques. They are shutting off the noise of “respectability” and “good behavior,” and instead choosing to tap into the flow of the moment. By answering the internal call to climb up on the Wall, they take up space and embrace themselves fully.
The Wall stands as a playful and proud affirmation of personal freedom. It merges personal joy with group energy, and self-expression with culture.

One of our favorite parts of Caribbean Carnival, not just in St. Lucia, is witnessing the transformation in our clients.
The process starts as soon as they arrive, vacation mode kicks in — the tension starts to dissipate, and the party begins. As we progress through the fetes and cultural experiences, the change continues to build as they realize that the release and freedom they’ve been yearning for is now available to them.
When we finally get to Parade Day, after they’ve completed their session with our glam squad and put on their costumes, they relax into themselves and their bodies. They are locked in!
All bodies are celebrated and given the opportunity to shine. The encouragement to lean into pleasure and autonomy rather than harsh critiques reinforces belonging and self-acceptance. Carnival is for every body — no matter how you move, whether you sway softly or strut boldly.
